Red Star Belgrade 2-0 Liverpool ratings as Daniel Sturridge branded 'selfish'

England striker 'rightly subbed' at white-hot Rajko Mitić Stadium as Milan Pavkov hits superb double

Liverpool had a night to forget in Belgrade.

Shoddy first half defending and wayward shooting in the second period meant Jurgen Klopp's men crashed to their third successive away defeat in the Champions League.

That's after losses to AS Roma and Napoli, with Klopp's men second best in Serbia too.

Milan Pavkov did the damage, with an early header when he out-foxed the Liverpool  defence, before a fine strike past Alisson.

Despite being picked in place of Firmino, Daniel Sturridge endured a toough night.

The striker was hooked at half time, with his performance branded 'selfish'.

Here's how the rest of the side rated...

EPL: Mourinho takes another swipe at Man United’s board

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has taken another swipe at his United board by claiming that Everton have the ‘same ambition’ as the Red Devils this season.

United spent around £70m during the summer transfer window on Fred and Diogo Dalot but Mourinho was furious that his board failed to sign at least one centre-back.

United’s executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward overruled Mourinho’s defensive choices and the Red Devils had a slow start to the season, leaning in tenth position of the Premier League table.

Mourinho has made a number of digs at his board since the start of the season by praising West Ham’s scouting network and Juventus’ strength in depth.

However, the Portuguese claimed that his Sunday’s opponents, Everton have the same ‘ambition’ as United do.

“Incredible investment,” Mourinho was quoted by Metro UK when asked about Everton.

“We knew the club would move in that direction, very good players, players from Barcelona.

“So that is the level which Everton wants to reach. Their ambitions are very similar to our ambitions.”

The Toffees signed Yerry Mina from Barcelona during the summer transfer window who was also on United’s radar.

The centre-back had an impressive performance during the World Cup but he’s yet to make his debut for the Everton given the partnership between Kurt Zouma and Michael Keane.

EPL: Gary Neville reveals why Martial rejected new Manchester United contract

Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has claimed that Anthony Martial possibly rejected a new contract at the club, because he wants more money.

Martial was expected to sign a new five-year contract, but the two parties are seemingly some way off agreeing terms.

There has been much speculation over the future of the 22-year-old, with rumours of unrest after falling behind Alexis Sanchez in the pecking order last season.

“I’m not surprised he’s turned down a new deal.

“I think it’s probably the general answer of everybody that gets offered a new contract nowadays, that they turn a new one down.

“He probably wants the same level of money some of the other players in the squad are on, he is probably looking at his options externally.
“From that point of view, at this moment in time, it doesn’t surprise me at all that he’s turned it down,” Neville told Sky Sports.

EPL: Ozil hits back at Arsene Wenger after questioning his motivation

Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil has explained that he gets aggressive while training and cannot help but get emotional when he misses big chances in games.

The Arsenal star is yet to show his best performance this first season under Unai Emery, but the Gunners are on an eleven-game winning streak.

The German international inspired a perfect comeback from 1-0 down against Leicester City on Monday, and was praised for leading by example after being handed the captain’s armband by Emery.

However, the club former boos, Arsene Wenger raised questions about Ozil’s motivation this season, even as the German insisted his attitude is on track.

“I always have motivation, particularly before the games, I want to win all the games and I hate to lose, even in training I am pissed and aggressive because I always want to win,” he told Sky Sports.

“I am a very calm person, sometimes on the pitch I get very emotional if I make mistakes or give the ball away because I want to make everything perfect.

“The coach wants me to give everything on the pitch, which is what I do but I still work hard to reach my aims.

“I have said before the main thing is to achieve more than we have over the last few years and I think we have the potential to win something with the team. Hopefully at the end of the season we will win some trophies.”

EPL: Again, Roman Abramovich speaks on selling Chelsea

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, has again ruled out the possibility of selling Chelsea.

Recall that Abramovich was reported to be willing to sell the West London club if his £3billion valuation is met.

But Sky Sports is reporting that the Russian-Israeli billionaire is not considering selling the Stamford Bridge club, despite reports suggesting that Czech Republic’s richest person, Petr Kellner is interested in investing in the Blues.

The report added that no talk has taken place between Chelsea’s owner and any potential investor.

Chelsea were forced to deny reports last month that the 51-year-old is looking to cash-in after 15 years in West London.

An offer of £2billion was said to have been tabled by Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but it will take a far bigger bid for Abramovich to sell Chelsea.

Recall that Abramovich rejected an approach from Ratcliffe to buy Chelsea Football Club.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be taking on Burnley on Sunday in the Premier League fixture.

EPL: Mourinho ‘worried’ over De Gea’s future at Man United

                    Sport News

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho is concerned that David De Gea may decide to leave United and join the Seria A champions, Juventus on a free transfer, according to reports.

United are currently in talks with De Gea over a new deal as his current contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

The Red Devils have the option of extending the contract for an additional year but should he fail to sign a new long-term contract, United must decide whether to sell the Spain international next summer or risk losing him on a free transfer in 2020.

According to The Times, Mourinho is ‘worried’ by the current situation and Juventus have already made known their interest to the shot-stopper.

Juve chiefs also got a closer glimpse of De Gea during their Champions League win at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

According to the newspaper, “De Gea played against his future club on Tuesday. Juve are an expert in intelligent deals.

“If United don’t sell him in the summer, Juventus will wait until the end of his contract.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Helps Juventus Break 88 Years Old Record (See The Record)

Portuguese International. Cristiano Ronaldo, was the man of the match after he set up three goals for Juventus to beat second placed, Napoli.
In so doing, they have now become the first team in Serie A to win 7 consecutive opening matches in a new season. Amazing isn’t it?
Napoli, who signed Ronaldo’s former coach at Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, took an early lead in the 9th minutes before Ronaldo provided the assist for the equalizer just before the half time break.
He went on to complete the turn around in the second half by providing two more assists for Marzukic and Chiellini. The match then ended 3-1.

EPL: Mark Lawrenson predicts results of Chelsea vs Man United, Arsenal vs Leicester City

Former Liverpool defender, Mark Lawrenson has predicted Chelsea to play a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon at the Stamford Bridge.

He also predicted Arsenal to defeat Leicester City 2-1 in Monday’s Premier League fixture at the Emirates Stadium.

“The reason I see it being so tight is that I think we will see Mourinho park the bus, because he will not want to go back to Chelsea and be embarrassed,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“I know United recovered from 2-0 down to beat Newcastle before the international break, but they are not exactly on a good run of results.

“There is an argument that Mourinho prefers to play the better teams – his overall record in these kind of games is really good – which is why I think they will get a draw here. Prediction Chelsea 1, Manchester United 1.

On Arsenal vs Leicester City game, he added: “Arsenal are on a run of nine straight wins in all competitions, and I would expect them to beat Leicester as well.

“Like Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, Gunners boss Unai Emery has come in and is doing a very good job.

“That shows they are clearly both good managers, but it also shows that both clubs are very well run, with good resources and some excellent players. “Prediction Arsenal 2 Leicester City 0”.

The kick-off time for Chelsea vs Man United is 12:30pm, while Arsenal vs Leicester City is 8pm.

EPL: Brown identifies area Man United need improvement, advises Mourinho

Former Manchester United defender, Wes Brown has identified one area the club needs to improve this season.

According to him, the Red Devils need to improve on their defence line.

Brown, however, urged United manager, Jose Mourinho to make more good signings during the January transfer window that will help consolidate the centre-backs.

“I don’t think United need to improve much but they need to sort out the defence,” Brown exclusively told Express Sport.

“I like having the two same centre-backs all of the time. Maybe that’s what the manager is trying to sort out at the moment.

“The signings are going to come and go – there are going to be more signings in January. And there’ll be more again in the summer. That’s football, that’s what happens.”

United will take on Chelsea in an away Premier League fixture on Saturday afternoon.

The kick-off time for the match is 12:30pm.

Fiteq World Cup: England call up football freestyler who did not know teqball existed

Table tennis, but not as you know it - Chelsea stars play teqball
Ronaldinho is a whizz, Neymar's a fan and the Chelsea team are at it in training most days.
It's table tennis, but not as you know it.
Teqball, best described as football played on a 'scientifically' adapted curved ping pong table, has attracted the interest of an ensemble of world-class footballers and the sport is now aiming for Olympic inclusion.
The problem is, the majority of people don't know it exists.
Until recently, football freestyler Ben Nuttall was one of them.
Now he is about to represent England at the World Cup in France.
"When I was at school, we'd set up a table and put bags in the middle to play header table tennis with a football," Nuttall told BBC Sport. "I didn't realise it was an actual sport until I got the call up."

Ben Nuttall holds two Guinness World Records for football tricks
The 18-year-old from Birmingham readily admits it wasn't something he was "insane at" when introduced to the game, but as someone who holds the Guinness World Record for keepy uppies with a rugby ball he adapted quickly.
"It is harder than it looks," he said.
"As a freestyler I already have the first touch control, balance and coordination. It took some getting used to and I had to learn the rules, but it's fun.
"I've seen videos of other players, some professionals who train every day, and the quality at the World Cup is going to be high."

How the teq do you play?

  • The ball must be returned to the opponent's side onto the table by touching it a maximum of three times
  • The ball cannot be touched by the same body part in succession
  • Players win a point if the opponent fails to return the ball legally
  • Matches are played as the best of three sets
  • A set is won by the first side to win 20 points. The final set needs to be won by two clear points
  • Points are scored in a number of ways
  • The World Cup has both singles and doubles competitions - open to both men and women
Since the first World Cup last year, the tournament has doubled in size with more than 40 nations going for glory in the three-day event starting on Thursday in Reims.
While it has its own world championship, teqball got its biggest exposure when Brazil players, including Neymar, Coutinho, Dani Alves and Marcelo, were filmed playing against each other during training at the 2018 World Cup.
Brazil's former World Cup winner Ronaldinho has a table at home and has dazzled on the board in a number of videos.
While teqboard tables, which cost around £2,000, can be found at Premier League bases like Chelsea's Cobham training ground rather than at public parks and recreation halls, Nuttall said the sport has plenty of appeal.
"I can see that a lot of footballers see it as being good for training and improving their touch, but it could really grow if people start looking at it as a sport itself," he said.
"There is talk of the Olympics in the future. That would be great."
Brazil's Gabriel Jesus (L) Dani Alves (2nd L), Neymar and Philippe Coutinho (R) play a game of teqball

Last month teqball was officially recognised as a sport by the Olympic Council of Asia. In Britain there is a push to have national governing bodies established in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The game and table design was created in Hungary by a former professional footballer who teamed up with a businessman and computer scientist.
Viktor Huszar, the scientist behind it, said it was the "peak of his football career" watching news reports which included footage of players using the table at the World Cup in Russia.
Huszar sees it as good business exposure and a "show of approval" from football royalty.
"Teqball is showing that there is a new model in the sports world, as all sports have so far been based on traditional conservative approaches," said Huszar.
"Sports that were created a hundred years ago didn't have the opportunities through the internet and social media to grow - we have this opportunity so we exploit it.
"The sport works because of the player and we wouldn't have the impact we do without famous players and teams playing.
"We have been recognised as a sport just a year after setting up an international federation, other sports wait 30 years for that to happen."

Government releases funding to help more athletes qualify for Olympics

‘Aspiration fund’ totalling £3m for Tokyo 2020 and beyond
Paralympic sports such as wheelchair rugby also eligible

Olympic sports such as badminton, basketball and surfing, which do not receive elite funding by UKSport, will be able to apply for up to £500,000 of financial help from a new “aspiration fund” set up by the government.
Paralympic sports, such as wheelchair rugby and goal ball, will also be eligible for the scheme, which is designed to help athletes from more sports to qualify for Tokyo 2020 and beyond.
Tracey Crouch, the minister for sport and civil society, said the fund, which amounts to £3m in total, would enable more athletes the chance to inspire the nation.
“UK Sport investment has transformed Britain into an Olympic and Paralympic powerhouse,” she said. “But there are sports, not on UK Sport’s world-class programme, that do a huge amount of good in communities that we can help on their path to the podium.”
Liz Nicholl, the chief executive of UK Sport, called it a “fantastic opportunity” for more sports to get on track for the Tokyo Games.
She said: “Many of the sports we are unable to support, while further away from reaching the podium, have great potential not only to inspire through their performances but also to have a social impact in communities across the UK.”
Table-tennis, skateboarding, handball and baseball/softball are also expected to apply for the scheme. To receive funding, which will run until the end of the Tokyo 2020 cycle, sports will have to convince the government they will engage and inspire communities.
The announcement was given a cautious welcome by David Pond, the chief executive of GB wheelchair rugby, which lost all of its UK Sport funding after finishing fifth at Rio 2016. “Any additional funding will obviously help us,” he said, “but the reality is next year I need to raise £400,000 to help us prepare us properly for the 2020 Paralympics.”

EPL: How Hazard wants Real Madrid to help him leave Chelsea revealed

Chelsea forward, Eden Hazard wants Real Madrid to promise him that they will make a big-money move for him next summer.

This, according to Daily Telegraph, will propel him to tell his club, Chelsea, that he wants to leave Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year-old has been longing to play for Real Madrid, and revealed this week that he was often tempted by the prospect of joining the La Liga giants.

“Sometimes in my head, I wake up in the morning and think I want to go,” he said on Monday.
“Sometimes I think I want to stay. It is a hard decision… It is my future.”
According to the report, Hazard wants Real Madrid to make a signal of intent before making any decision over his future in the capital.

The newspaper claimed that the player will wait to see whether the Spanish club promise to submit a huge offer next summer.
If Real conform, Hazard will likely tell Chelsea that he will not sign a new deal and leave.
The Daily Telegraph added that Hazard is not interested in leaving Chelsea for any club other than Real Madrid, meaning that the Blues could still retain the 27-year-old if Real’s interest somehow wavers.
