Heavily armed gunmen Friday morning raided some students of Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, carting away their valuables and food items. DAILY POST gathered that the robbers invaded Efoyo, a community dominated by students of the institution around 2 am, shooting sporadically into the air. A student of the institution, who was attacked by the gunmen, said the invaders inflicted injuries on them after robbing them of their valuables. “We could not sleep at all. They came into Efoyo around 2am. They were shooting sporadically and no security personnel challenged them. They came into our lodge, stole all our phones, our food items and a laptop I borrowed to do my project. “In fact, they had to beat us when they could not get money from our lodge,” the student said. A resident of Ideal Quarter, which was also attacked by the robbers said, “They nearly killed us because they could not get money. It was hell for us, because for close to three hours, these guys were operating and shooting sporadically same time. Sadly, there was no single security person in sight. We are sick and tired of all this.” Another female resident of Otabo Lodge also said they could not sleep due to the sound of the gunshots. She said some students teamed up with the vigilante group in the area, chased after the gunmen and arrested some of them. “They were paraded this morning. The police came to rescue them because some students wanted to lynch them,” she said. The attack came barely 24 hours after Mr. Andrew Ogbuja, a lecturer in the department of Hotel Management of the institution was remanded in the prison custody by a Makurdi court for alleged rape of a 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbaje.

According to eyewitnesses, Tony Zitta, a young man who was undergoing the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja, was involved in an accident, robbed by police at the accident scene and left to bleed to death.

A twitter account called @thecapitalmvmt narrated that: “Tony Zitta, a corper serving in Abuja and a founding member of the Capital movement was driving home and was hit at the junction of Diamond bank, Wuse II along Ademola Adetekumbo.

"As the ladies created a commotion, other people came and made sure the second group of responders carried the BMW and Tony’s camry to the police station as some friends of the BMW owner had sent a tow truck to try and move the BMW away from the crime scene".

Buhari to pardon late Ambrose Ali whom he sentenced to 100 years in 1983

President Muhammadu Buhari is considering presidential pardon for late Professor Ambrose Alli, former Governor of Bendel State (now Edo and Delta States), according to Edo Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Obaseki revealed this at a memorial service held in honour of the former governor, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Emaudo, Ekpoma, on Sunday.
“I had an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari while in China and discussed the issue of a presidential pardon for late Prof. Alli.
“The president asked me to meet with the Attorney-General of the Federation. This I have done and I have also written to him.
“The president has subsequently instructed the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to begin the process,” he said.
The governor said he was optimistic that at the next meeting of the Council on Prerogative of Mercy, the president would grant the pardon.
Obaseki also gave the assurance that he was working with his Delta counterpart to ensure that pension due to late Alli was paid to his widow and the family.
The governor praised the former governor’s development strides in his single term in the defunct Bendel.

On his part, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta said the state would continue to remember Alli for developing it, adding that the people had a lot to thank him for.
“We are grateful, as his developmental strides can still be seen years after his death,” he said.
Eldest son to the former governor, Mr Andrew Alli, the Ezomo of Ekpoma, regretted that his father was still termed a criminal despite his contributions to the development of Delta, Edo and Nigeria.
Alli was reportedly arrested and sentenced to 100 years in prison by a military tribunal for allegedly misappropriating N983,000 meant for a road project when the military government of then Major-General Muhammadu Buhari took power in 1983.
He was said to have been later freed when the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, paid a fine to the government.

Kaduna now a failed State – Senator Hunkuyi, others speak on crisis

Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi representing Kaduna North Senatorial district has stated that Kaduna State has become a failed State as a result of crisis that started a few days ago.
The lawmaker explained that the crisis has defied all security measures, saying innocent people continue to die due to different attacks.
He demanded the release of Adara traditional ruler who was whisked away to an unknown destination by security agents amid the crisis.
The lawmaker further lamented that the perpetrators of the crisis in the state have not been brought to justice since 1992, saying the government has been pretending not to know them.
“Mr President, distinguished colleagues, you will agree with me that some elements have been sponsoring carnage in the state without being brought to justice by the government.”
“It’s unfortunate that government would pretend to not knowing those behind the heinous acts. ”
Senator Ahmed Abubakar representing Adamawa South Senatorial district, while seconding the motion said, similar incidences were ongoing in Adamawa State.
He said Lamurde and Demsa Local Government have been under attack by local militias without any challenge from security agents.
He called on security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities.
Senator Umar Kurfi, Katsina Central lamented that the killings were sponsored, urging government to rise to the occasion.
Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central while announcing his new party platform, PRP said, Kaduna crisis was due to religious and ethnic bigotry.

“Over 20 years, Kaduna has been mired in ethnic and religious violence and I want to call on religious and community leaders to sensitise their subjects. “

Man United vs Juventus: What Ronaldo will love to do to us at Old Trafford – Mourinho

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has stated that Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, will love to score against the Red Devils despite his affection for the club when both teams clash in tonight’s Champions League fixture.
Ronaldo will face his former club at Old Trafford for the first time in five years on Tuesday night.
The Portuguese international spent six years at United during former United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or before moving to Real Madrid in 2009.
Ronaldo’s last appearance against United at their home was in the knockout stage of the 2012-13 Champions League, when he scored what proved to be the winning goal in a 3-2 aggregate victory for Real Madrid.
And Mourinho, who was Madrid’s manager at the time, fully expects the 33-year-old to want to strike against United.
Mourinho’s side head to the game following a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the weekend, while Juventus played a 1-1 draw with Genoa in the Serie A fixture.
“He [Ronaldo] came back with me in Real Madrid. It was a knockout match and I know how much he loves Manchester United. I know that, but I also know how much he wanted to win here and score against Manchester United and win against Manchester United,” Mourinho told Manchester United’s website.
“Ronaldo scored, and they won. So, [on Tuesday], more of the same. The fans will show the respect he deserves. He will show that to the fans too. I know that he really loves the club but when the ball starts rolling, he wants to score, and he wants to win.”

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu may be out to frustrate Atiku/Obi’s presidency – Reuben Abati

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati, has opined that the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu may be acting out a script by resurfacing at a time when the political atmosphere in the country was gathering momentum, ahead of 2019.
Abati hinted that Kanu’s decision to resurface from his hiding place may have a political undertone.
In his latest article titled, “Nnamdi Kanu as “Wailing Wailer,” Abati said Kanu may be a “curveball” being used to “frustrate the Atiku-Obi’s ticket.”
The embattled IPOB leader, who has not been seen since September 2017, had last week Friday resurfaced in Jerusalem praying.
However, Abati in his article wrote: “Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement suddenly resurfaced in Jerusalem, Israel at the Wailing Wall, after his one-year disappearance that resulted in speculations about his whereabouts. Kanu has since issued a statement through Radio Biafra in which he denounced the Nigerian state and boasted that no Nigerian court can do anything to him.
“Before disappearing from sight, under the cloud of the invasive Operation Python Dance in his home state of Abia, IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu had accused the Nigerian government of trying to kill him and destroy the Biafran movement that he leads. He has now been quoted as saying: “(The) Nigerian court is a kangaroo court. I did not jump bail. I left because the court failed to protect me. I shall not be honouring the court. I cannot be tried by a court I do not recognize. Nigeria cannot jail me.”
“Whatever may be the quality of Nnamdi Kanu’s grievances, he must be told in clear terms that he cannot make such claims of superiority to the state as he has done.
“No non-Nigerian can even say that Nigerian courts are unacceptable and yet engage in acts that could have implications for Nigeria’s sovereignty. Kanu says he escaped during the invasion of his home by Nigerian soldiers. We have condemned that invasion – its manner, style and intent. We have defended the right of indigenous peoples to ask for self-determination, under the right circumstances. But no other Nigerian, including Igbos, believes that Nnamdi Kanu is superior to the Nigerian state.
“He is on record as having said: “I am Nnamdi Kanu, no mortal flesh can kill me. They have not given birth to that very person. Since they didn’t want me to come to court, I shall come back to Biafra land…” If no mortal flesh can kill him, why run away then? Ple-a-se! Some other reports indicate that when Nnamdi Kanu returns, he will bring “hell”. I am not sure that is a correct public statement to make.
“I do not see many Nigerians who are looking forward to a promised “hell”. They are in hell already. And they are not likely to rely on the words of a man who vanished, when the Nigerian hell became too hot, but he is now bragging that he will return and lead his followers to a hotter part of hell. When and if Kanu returns, (he is probably just bluffing), he may find a smaller crowd behind him. What will he say to the many families who lost loved ones and property while he and his own family fled to safety? “I owe my survival to the state of Israel”, Kanu says. “I want to send my solidarity to @GovAyoFayose”, he purportedly added.
“There may be politics tied to Nnamdi Kanu’s return. Why now, when an Igbo man, has been named by the opposition party as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate? Is anyone using Nnamdi Kanu as a curveball to frustrate the Atiku-Obi ticket? Who dragged him out of whatever hole he crawled into, now to use him to play politics? However, by his conduct, and utterances, Kanu has watered down the potency of the revolution that he leads. He disappointed many. He has also failed to realise that while he was absent from the battle front, the dynamics of the revolution changed.
“He wants to hold a Biafra referendum. The only referendum Nigerians are interested in at this moment is a referendum on

Why I’ll never forget my late deputy, Idiagbon – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the late Maj.-Gen. Tunde Idiagbon was “a very rare example of what loyalty to fatherland and to a superior should be’’, and urged Nigerians to emulate him.
Idiagbon was Chief of Staff at the OkaySupreme Headquarters (de facto vice president) when Buhari was Head of State.

Mr Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity in a statement on Monday, quoted the president as describing late Tunde Idiagbon as strong, loyal and committed Nigerian.

Buhari spoke on Monday when he received a delegation from Kwara state All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Tunde was strong, loyal and extremely committed to the cause of positively changing the narrative about Nigeria, which the administration set out to do at that time,” he said.

Buhari recalled how his former deputy, who, while on pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia when the administration was overthrown in 1985, insisted on returning to the country.
He said Idiagbon returned to the country despite the political uncertainty, especially as he had learnt that he, as Commander-in-Chief at that time, had not been killed in the take-over.
The President added that the late Idiagbon rejected the offer from the King of Saudi Arabia to bring members of his (Idiagbon) family from Nigeria to the Kingdom, as he was his guest at that time, and eventually returned to Nigeria to suffer arrest like he (Buhari) did.
The President further enjoined Nigerians to remain faithful and loyal to the country in all their dealings.

How NSCDC Nabbed “Madman” That Received N1.5m Credit Alert

To the residents of Isikan in Akure, the Ondo State capital, a madman, simply identified as Dele, is a pathetic “psychiatric patient” who only wandered around the streets in an insane manner without any noticeable destination.  But on Tuesday, he was arrested by the eagle eye of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corpse (NSCDC) in Ondo State Command for kidnapping. During his arrest, no member of the public could have imagined that the pretending “madman” is a stinking millionaire who has carved a niche for himself throughout his alleged kidnapping business. Parading the suspect at the headquarters office of the NSCDC in Akure, the State Commandant, Pedro Awili, said his men, while on surveillance duty within the metropolis, arrested the pretending mad man.  Mr Awili explained that the NSCDC had been on the trail of “persons like him” for some time. “We have been on his trail for some days. It was a resident who spotted him that alerted our patrol team while on duty.
“To our surprise, we noticed he had a mobile phone because as a madam, he was not expected to have a functional mobile phone. “Few minutes after he was arrested, and his mobile phone seized, an alert of 1.5million Naira payment was received on it.
“Suddenly, he forcefully collected the phone and smashed it on the floor. We are going to repair the phone and ascertain the source or person that sent the money to him and the persons who he his working for,” he said. The NSCDC boss further noted that the culprit belongs to a serial kidnap syndicate terrorising people and innocent residents of the state.  He vowed that the command would investigate the case to a conclusion and ensure justice is properly served on the culprit. Mr Awili added that the suspect would be charged to court once all investigations are concluded and other collaborators are nabbed.
He tasked the general public in the state to be security conscious and report suspicious attitudes of people mostly “mad-men” in their vicinity to the security agencies. “We are advising members of the public that they should cooperate with the security agencies by giving us adequate, accurate and verified information that could help us carry out our mandates.“And people should watch their environment and know the kind of people they see especially ‘mad-men’ to know if truly, such a person is mad.”
Residents who spoke to LEADERSHIP Weekend in the neighborhood confirmed that the “madman” always walked in and around like the usual ones who are insane in the metropolitan city. “Nobody ever thought he is a kidnapper because he appears regularly like a typical madman. “I am sure the patrol team that arrested him must have acted on information because it would be difficult for anyone to believe that he is not an insane person,” one of the residents said. The case of “madmen” wandering the streets of Akure metropolis has become rampant, and the residents have begun to wonder what role can the state government play to end lunatic activities on the street of city. Speaking on this development, an environmentalist, Pastor Adebukun Ayodele, said that the government should have a stiffer law that could help evacuate these “set of lunatics on the street”. “You know this is not the first time the security agencies would arrest a mad man on the streets of Akure. “Ondo State government can always put in place an enabling law that can help withdraw these people from our streets. “Lagos State has laws, and it would be hard for you to see insane set of people on the streets of Lagos again because their law has a stiff penalty,” Mr Ayodele said.

2019: The price of disobedience is disgrace, Fr. Mbaka tells Buhari

Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, who anchors Adoration Ministry, Enugu, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of messing up his opportunities by failing to listen to the word of God.
The outspoken cleric, who noted that the price of disobedience is disgrace, predicted that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, may emerge as Nigeria’s next president in the 2019 general elections.
This was as he said that there was still an opportunity for events in the coming days to decide the outcome of the election.
He said, “There are no people that will develop this country that are not in Nigeria. We have people who will develop this nation; but our President left the same type of people who don’t have the same type of vision around him and everything they do is in your (President’s) head.
“After you are removed, they will bring people that will flog you because you messed up the opportunities because you didn’t listen to the word of God. You didn’t listen to the man of God you have and you were disobeying him.
“The price of disobedience is disgrace.”
Mbaka, who predicted Buhari’s victory over the then incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 general elections, stated this while addressing his congregation at the Adoration Ground.
He had earlier described Buhari as “change” and former Vice President Atiku as “bureau de change.”
His description of Atiku as “bureau de change” was in reference to the alleged foreign currencies Atiku was said to have spent to woo delegates of the party during the PDP National Convention in Port Harcourt, where the erstwhile vice president eventually emerged the party’s presidential candidate.
On what happens in 2019 he said, “So let the will of God be done in Nigeria. It is like what I have been saying Buhari change or you will be changed.
“What will it take you; change the Chief of Staff, change B, change C, change this and change that; even if it will take 20 Igbo men or 20 Yoruba men to change Nigeria; take all of them. Look at what (Chukwuma) Soludo did in the Central Bank; he has assured Nigeria and the whole world that there is nothing like bank collapse again.
“An Igbo man did this, why can’t Buhari take Soludo for the economic revival and revamping of Nigeria’s economy? And you are busy talking about corruption, playing game with the lives of Nigerians from the issue of Fulani herdsmen to Boko Haram to Jos killings. You said somebody stole, what did he steal?

“Someday, they said the government has spent trillions of naira on social investment scheme and I want to know who are the people they were spending the money on; the Vice President said they are giving N10, 000 to small scale businesses and I asked, is this how they will transform Nigeria? You give somebody N10, 000 for business, what type of business will N10, 000 start?
“Somebody will have billions and want to take the one belonging to the public while hunger will be killing his people. Look at the type of money they shared during the primaries to the extent that they brought Bureau de Change. They said Buhari is change, but Atiku is bureau de change. They were sharing the money in dollars and it was going out in millions of dollars in Nigeria where hunger is killing people; where you don’t have food to eat.
“If they spend such monies to get ticket, how do you think that when they get into power they will rule, of course, they will first recover the money they have spent but the worst is that the money was not being shared to the poor.”
He lamented the cost of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC’s) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, saying had the leadership of the party had conscience, that they would not have collected N24 million from people to obtain the forms.

EPL: What Pogba said after Man United’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea

Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has reacted to his side’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League fixture played on Saturday.
Pogba was at fault for Chelsea’s opener, after losing the Blues defender, Antonio Rudiger at a corner to allow the centre-back a free header.
United went in front thanks to Anthony Martial’s brace, but were denied victory by midfielder, Ross Barkley’s stoppage-time equaliser.
But reacting to United’s draw against Maurizio Sarri’s side, Pogba took to his official Twitter page, @paulpogba, to urge the Red Devils to focus on their next game against Serie A champions, Juventus in the Champions League fixture on Tuesday.
The France international, however, admitted that Chelsea’s clash was a though game.
“Tough game, we keep focused and on to the next @ManUtd,” Pogba wrote.
Meanwhile, Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, defended Paul Pogba after his poor marking from a corner led to a Chelsea goal.
“Players make mistakes and I prefer to focus on the global performance,” Mourinho said when asked about Pogba’s role in Chelsea’s first goal.
“My midfield was very good. Paul was good, [Nemanja] Matic was good, [Juan] Mata was good, Ander Herrera was also in the game.
“The three attacking players work a lot – Mata, [Anthony] Martial, [Marcus] Rashford. The team did a fantastic work, so I will try to focus on the level of the performance and forget the bad result. I think we deserve much more than this result but this is what it is.”

'Probe your wife over alleged missing N2.5b or stop harassing Nigerians'

Aisha Buhari

A public commentator and member of Adamawa Elders Forum, Alhaji Suleiman Baba Jada, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to prove to Nigerians that he is not selective in his anti-corruption war by directing Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC) to probe his wife Aisha Buhari how she got N2.5 billion she accused her ADC SP Baban Inna of diverting.
He told journalists yesterday in Yola, the state capital that the silence of the president over the alleged N2.5b his wife said was diverted by her ADC has raised questions on the integrity of the President and his government.
Jada said it is a confirmation that the anti-corruption war of the governmnt is only targeted at members of opposition parties.
If the President fails to probe his wife over money which no Nigerian knows how she got it, it means that the President is shielding her.
He said that without EFCC inviting Aisha Buhari for investigation, the government would no longer be taken serious on anti-corruption crusade.
On the recent criticism of APC by Aisha Buhari over the just concluded All Progressive Congress (APC) primaries, the Adamawa elder faulted the First Lady, saying that she has only crossed her boundary, she has taken over government, party and the responsibilities of her husband as President.

Kidnapper Sleeps Off In Victim’s House After Taking Tramadol

A suspected kidnapper, who wanted to kidnap a pharmacy owner, slept off as a result of tramadol he took before the operation.
The Ondo State Police Command said the incident took place in Owo town , Ondo State, on Sunday, adding that as of Monday, the suspect was still sleeping due to the effect of the drug.
Parading the unconscious suspect at the command headquarters in Akure, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, explained that the suspect and his gang members had invaded a pharmacy in Owo to kidnap the owner.
Joseph said the three-man gang stormed the store with a gun, but the victim raised the alarm and escaped through the back door.
The PPRO said, “After failing to abduct their target, the hoodlums fled, but one of them stumbled because he was not active again due to the effect of the tramadol he had taken.
“The suspect has been sleeping for  more than 24 hours after his arrest while a 400mg tablet of tramadol was found in his pocket. “
The police spokesman said the suspect would be charged to court after regaining consciousness.

Buhari Has Been Very Tolerant of Saraki’

Ita Giwa

Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, a former senior legislative aide to two former presidents states why The Presidency and the leadership of the National Assembly must bury the hatchet and adopt a process of cordial informal consultations
This type of crisis is nothing new to the senate. I recall that between 1999 and 2003 when I served in the senate that a similar situation existed, where a Senate President emerged without the endorsement or support of the ruling party leadership or Presidency. You will recall that the late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo took over the Senate Presidency after Evans Enwerem was removed against the wishes of the then President, so this Senate President is not the first to so emerge.
The difference between now and then is the disposition of our present President who has been, in my opinion, exhibiting a lot of maturity and patience because having worked for two Presidents as Presidential Legislative Special Adviser, I can authoritatively say that, this Senate President, considering the manner he emerged would not have lasted one year.
Personally, for supporting Okadigbo, I was removed as Senate Deputy Minority Leader. I was given accommodation in Apo Village at the end of the estate close to the thick forest with wild animals as my regular visitors. When I fenced the property, I was indicted for illegally erecting the fence and making senate pay for it without declaring pecuniary interest. All sorts of charges were levelled against me and at some point, I had like three cases in court. I suffered all these because I supported Okadigbo in the Impeachment of Enwerem.
The party is only now, and rightly so, insisting that the Senate President should step down now that he is in another party.
Whenever a Senate President emerges without the endorsement of the Presidency and the party leadership, this type of crisis is bound to occur. But both parties could have handled the situation better. Ordinarily, it is important for the Senate President and the President to be friends or at best be on cordial terms. Both parties have a duty to be cordial and work together for the good of the people. In my days as Special Adviser, we evolved a system of non-stop informal interactive sessions. From the time of policy formulation, we used to engage the legislators and keep them posted and engaged so that by the time the bill is drafted and laid on the table, the legislature is fully involved and the bills get passed fast.
Doing it this way engenders mutual trust and promotes co-operation without affecting the principles of separation of power between the executive and legislature.
We are at a point where both parties of necessity must reconsider their approach. Any leadership that emerges through personal alliances not linked to the party leadership will invariably be high-handed in its approach to administering the legislature, that notwithstanding it behoves such leadership to rise above base sentiments to exhibit maturity.
I pride myself for not being anyone’s apologist but this President has, in my opinion, either been indifferent to the circumstances that led to the emergence of Dr. Bukola Saraki as Senate President or he is an extremely tolerant person. I however choose to believe the latter because he even congratulated Saraki when the Supreme Court vindicated him.
What we are seeing now is that disagreement slows down the pace of government. The passage of bills is delayed and the people suffer unnecessarily. If the executive and legislature can adopt a process where cordial informal consultations are the order of the day, it will become a win-win situation for everyone including the populace. Democracy cannot thrive in an atmosphere of incessant disagreement, cordiality is paramount and must be sought by all means.
To achieve this, mutual respect and cordiality is the key. If the present leadership of the legislature and the executive revive my policy of nonstop informal interactive engagement, the era of purposeful governance and cordial relations will return to governance in Nigeria. I fervently pray that good conscience and love for country will prevail in the current situation between the executive and legislature.
I recall an incident during my days as a serving Senator. Our choice as Senate President, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo had taken over the mantle after we removed Evans Enwerem the then President’s favourite. Okadigbo was inundated with impeachment plots and series of intimidations engineered from outside the Senate. On one occasion, his official residence at Apo Villa was invaded by police men and under duress forced the Senate President to write and sign a bogus statement. When the news got to us- Senators who supported Okadigbo, we mobilised to the residence and successfully broke the siege and tore the bogus statement. For this, we were marked for serious retribution. When they finally impeached Okadigbo, I as a supporter, was removed as Deputy Minority Leader and indicted on trumped up charges. When I hear people say Mr. President has been overbearing in this current crisis, I laugh. Compared to what we went through with Okadigbo, this is a tea party. In fact, I think this President should be commended for displaying incredible restraint in the face of legislative provocation.
