Fresh facts emerge on how two ABSU students died in Young Shall Grow motor accident

Fresh facts have emerged on the recent death of two students of the Abia State University, ABSU, who lost their lives in a fatal accident in Imo State.
The students, who were believed to be from the same parents, lost their lives in the luciferous mishap involving a bus owned to Young Shall Grow Transport Company.
Report has it that the deceased were going to visit their parents when the accident happened during the week around Okigwe.
An eyewitness told DAILY POST that the accident happened while the driver was trying to slot in a CD plate on the car stereo.
According to the source, who survived the incident, the driver was trying to change a CD plate on the car stereo and rammed into a pothole before losing control of the steering and collided with an oncoming trailer.
The source said, “I have never seen this kind of driver in my entire life. Right from the park, he was just playing music disturbing all passengers. We complained that the music was too loud, and besides, he was just playing Ghanaian music, which none of us understood.
“He ignored us until he was satisfied and wanted to slot in another CD plate when he rammed into a pothole. In the process of trying to dodge the hole, he lost control of the steering and had head-on-collision with an oncoming trailer.
“That was how innocent children lost their lives. It was God who saved the rest of us. Another 3-year-old baby lost her limb.
“I have vowed never to travel with the company again. The driver was so rude and talked to his passengers as though they were not humans.”
Meanwhile, several calls to the company’s corporate department for comment were ‘forwarded to another number which failed to connect.

N1.6bn traced to me was money Jonathan asked me to save for a church in Otuoke— Dudafa

Former senior special assistant on domestic affairs to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, Monday told a court in Lagos that the N1.6 billion traced to him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was part of money donated and mandated to be saved by Jonathan for a church building project in Otuoke, the former president’s hometown in Bayelsa.
Dudafa, who opened his defence in a N1.6 billion fraud charge instituted by the EFCC, said the money was part of a N6 billion raised for the building of St. Stephen’s Youth Development Centre.
The launching, which held in Lagos on March 16, 2013, was organised by Jonathan as the grand patron of the Anglican Communion.
“From my interactions with former president Goodluck Jonathan, I know that the funds were proceeds of a launching that was conducted by the Anglican Communion of Otuoke community for the building of St. Stephen’s Youth Development Centre, Otuoke,” Dudafa said, while being led in evidence by his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole.
“About N6 billion was realised from the event. Several persons made various donations in cash and in pledges at the event while the chief launcher, Prince Arthur Eze, donated $10 million (about N1.8 billion).”
Dudafa said Eze’s donation was actually a pledge which he promised to redeem in batches.
He added that Jonathan subsequently mandated him to follow up on Eze to ensure he redeems his pledge.
“When Prince Eze started redeeming his pledge in piece-meal, the former president directed that I should get somebody in the private sector that will be able to keep the fund.
“I then brought in a friend, Somprie Omiebi, who later opened an account with a bank in Bayelsa. The naira denominated account was opened to receive Prince Eze’s money.
“Anytime Prince Eze brought any money, the former president will direct that I link up with a Bureau De Change (BDC) operator who will remit the money directly to the account opened by Somprie Omiebi. Dudafa denied having anything to do with the companies listed in the charge or even knowing the companies.
“I am not a signatory to their accounts. I am also not a Director. I know Somprie Omiebi as someone in the private sector that brought those accounts and the companies to the former president and his wife for the safekeeping of their money.
“Omiebi is the only person that knows the details of the various accounts.”
Dudafa, alongside Joseph Iwejuo, is facing a 23-count charge of conspiracy to conceal proceeds of crime amounting to N1.6 billion.
The EFCC alleged that the accused persons between June 2013 and June 2015, used different companies to fraudulently launder the said money.
The accused and about five other companies are also facing a N5.1 billion fraud charge before Justice Idris.

A View of Atiku Abubakar from the United States

Atiku Abubakar

Nigeria is poised to be one of the most important nations in the world. It has the resources, the population, the creative and entrepreneurial power and the geo-political presence to lead Africa and the world through some of the great global challenges of this century.
Bill Gates, along with Warren Buffet, are investing heavily in Nigeria’s future. The Gates Foundation has programmed $1.6 billion towards helping solve major social and economic problems in the country. Gates, an objective and reasoned observer of the potential of Nigeria, clearly identifies the problems that stand in the way of reaching the country’s potential. I share his view, which is why I strongly support giving Atiku Abubakar a chance to lead Nigeria into its rightful position of world leadership.
Gate’s said in a recent trip to Nigeria:
“If you invest in their health, education, and opportunities — the “human capital” we are talking about today — then they will lay the foundation for sustained prosperity. If you don’t, however, then it is very important to recognise that there will be a sharp limit on how much the country can grow.”
Education, particularly girls’ early education, and primary health care, with a strong emphasis on early childhood nutrition, are sadly lacking in Nigeria’s investment plan. These areas are where prior Nigerian politicians have failed. The results of this systematic neglect of the basics are that millions of poorly educated and poorly nourished Nigerians are left without the capacity or the tools to face the future.
In 2010, at the request of the then newly appointed President of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), I joined the governing board of that institution. I continue to serve as Vice Chairman of the Board, dedicating my time and effort without compensation. During this time, I have had the opportunity to observe and interact with AUN’s founder and chief benefactor, Atiku Abubakar, on a personal and professional level.
I have worked and lived in Africa since 1968 and have been part of developing several institutions of higher education on the continent. In no other country have I encountered a person who has dedicated so much of his personal fortune to supporting an American-styled university. I have dedicated my professional career to that approach and to the use of education as a fulcrum to improve the world we live in. The opportunity to assist in this pioneering effort to create a university in impoverished rural North-Eastern Nigeria, has been an honour and a privilege.
Why is an American style of education important to Nigeria and to Africa? First and foremost, the American approach is an applied one. America has a great tradition of land grant universities that are dedicated to applied research in service to the local areas where they are located. As part of the university system, they support outreach workers or extension workers to take the results of this research to the local producers as quickly as possible. In a rapidly changing technology-driven world, this element of constant community education is vital.
AUN has dedicated itself to being a development university “focused on resolving Nigerian problems of social and economic development and then applying these solutions to the rest of Africa.” Mr. Abubakar strongly supports this direction, intellectually and financially. He clearly understands the need to have the most current technology applied to resolving local problems and has put his own resources to work, doing so on countless occasions.
Community outreach and community involvement are another element championed by the American style of higher education. AUN programmes, such as ‘Feed and Read’ for destitute local children, taking in and educating over a hundred Chibok girls, and the Adamawa Peace Initiative, in response to the Boko Haram uprising, are all successful outreach programmes that have demonstrated a different, more applied, and yes, more American

Biafra: Nigerians react as Nnamdi Kanu resurfaces

A cross section of Nigerians have reacted to the sudden appearance of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu had not been seen since September 10, 2017, after some military men invaded his residence in Afaraukwu community in Abia State.

However, a video and photographs emerged on Friday of the IPOB leader praying in Jerusalem.

Reacting to Kanu’s appearance, Nigerians who took to their Twitter handle expressed divergent views.

Their reactions read: @omah_chijindu: “If @OfficialPDPNig and @UcheSecondus don’t do something to cage this mad dog, he will cause more harm than good for PDP in South East. Then PDP will know between PeterObi/NnamdiKanu and VPslot/Biafra which Igbo youths yearn for.”

@Dahveydson: “In coming days, we will see stories of how Nnamdi Kanu was taken up into heaven when the military came for him and how he was brought down to earth by angels clothed in sparkling white after obtaining supernatural powers.”

@Joeloguchi1: “Those who say Biafra will not come will be ashamed of themselves Nnamdi Kanu appeared in Jerusalem today; he prayed for the state of Biafra; he is out to accomplish that which he has started; all hail Biafra; thanks Chukwuokike abiama.”

@Iam_tweezytee: “So Mazi Nnamdi Kanu returns just in time for 2019. God daze me with surprises greater than that this coming week.. #FreakyFriday.”

@MrNosegbe: “Good to see that Nnamdi Kanu is (apparently) alive and well. That’s about all I need to say about it really, seeing as I don’t care about him that much.”

@Ezigbo_mmadu: “My joy knows no bound, seeing the return of Nnamdi Kanu, my able Director. Am sure he is fully fortified to deconstruct this British contraption called Nigeria.”

@SUEZJINES: “So Buhari didn’t kill Nnamdi Kanu…..hmmm.”

@codenamemarcus: “Nnamdi Kanu’s re-emergence looks more strategic than coincidental to me. I bet Aso rock has been unsettled by this development. #NnamdiKanu.”

@mahdouqueh: “Just watched a video of Nnamdi Kanu praying at the wall in Jerusalem. I hope Igbo youths understand the evil intent of this viral video at this time and avoid the trap being set for them.”

@ilynem: “My conspiracy theory!
Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and freed by the federal government under the condition shows up by this period and cause voter apathy in the southeast next year in the name of IPOB so Buhari can win.

I should write a fictional novel on this. Awesome movie script.”

@Crazytrollers: “It’s been a while since Nnamdi Kanu had been seen, the @radiobiafralife said he was kidnapped in Abia state, however, a question popped out, how did he get to Jerusalem or is he playing a role in 2019 elections?”
