We won’t leave Abuja without El-Zakzaky, Shiites dare Buhari, Buratai
“Buhari, free Zakzaky! Buratai, free El-Zakzaky!! Government, free El-Zakzaky!!! We will not surrender. Allah is our defender. We will never leave Abuja without El-Zakzaky…” Thousands of Shiite protesters chanted as they marched from the Mararaba bridge in Nasarawa state to Abuja on Monday, October 29, 2018.
The protest which started at about 2:15 pm soon turned bloody as the Shiites advanced the military checkpoint at Kugbo, a hilly area few kilometers from the popular AYA roundabout in Abuja, at about 3pm.
Attempts by the military to stop the protesters proved abortive as they felt they had conducted themselves in an organized manner that would not affect the flow of traffic.

With journalists a few meters away, the combined team of men of the Nigerian Army and mobile Policemen engaged the protesters who were bearing sticks, stones and catapults.
“The military usually stopped cars, we are walking and not in cars. Why did they attempt to stop us,” spokesman of the group, Muhammadu Musa, spokesperson of the Shiites told Pulse after the incident vowing not to surrender despite the attacks on the sect.
“They (security) have been directed to kill as many of us as possible and we were expecting this,” Musa said. “We know that they are waiting for us at the checkpoint but we are determined to continue our march to Abuja. We will not stop protesting until our leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-zakzaky and his wife and all our members are released. We will not stop,” he announced.

While admitting that only three Shiite members were killed, the Army blamed the Shiites for launching an attack on them at the checkpoint.
“The sect in massive numbers forced their way into the troops checkpoint after overrunning the Police Force. The Police withdrew back to own troops position to join efforts to repel them,” the Army stated in a Facebook post same day.
“They fired weapons at own troops, throwing bottle canisters with fuel, large stones, catapults with dangerous objects and other dangerous items at troops causing bodily harm and stopping motorist movement, breaking their windscreen and causing heavy traffic.
“However, Troops repelled the attack in conjunction with the Nigerian Police Force to stop the situation from further deteriorating.
“Unfortunately, during the encounter 3 members of the sect were killed while 4 soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries and are being treated at a military medical facility," the statement read.

Abuja, Nigeria’s protest capital
Almost every other week, there is a Shiite protest in Abuja.
In most cases, both protesters and security men sustain injuries with many losing their lives in demand for the release of El-zakzaky and his wife.
Regardless, the number of protesters continue to rise.

Another Boko Haram?
Asides the general insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory in recent times, residents of Abuja have a greater concern – the Shiite protesters.
“We now go out praying not to run into these Shiite protesters,” Musa Rufai told our correspondent. “I am a Muslim and I will tell you that these people (Shiites) are not Muslims. They are worse than anything. People who don’t mind dying. They do not care if they die or anybody is hurt. God help this us,” he said.
Similarly, Amina Salihu, is concerned that the Shiites may become a bigger problem than Boko Haram.

“With the way these boys are going, they’ll become a bigger problem than Boko Haram if care is not taken,” Ms Saplay
said.
“These boys were not carrying anything before but now, they have sticks and catapults. What will happen if, God forbid, they get support from another country. This was how Boko Haram started. The military kept killing them and they learnt how to make bombs. Today, our brothers are still being killed in the northeast,” she stated, while urging the Federal Government to release El-Zakzaky.
Why FG is holding on to El-zakzaky - Lai
Attempts to get Nigeria’s Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, to speak on the failure of the Federal Government to release El-Zakzaky despite court order met a brick wall.
“This conference is not about Shiites protest. In due course, the government will address the issue,” the Minister responded to questions at a press conference on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, fails to answer questions on El-zakzaky's continuous detention despite court orders for his release.

The Minister had earlier disclosed that Sheikh El-zakzaky and his wife were not in prison as claimed.
He noted that the Shiite leader was in being kept in a house with his family members.
"How many Nigerians know that El Zakzaky is actually not in prison custody nor police custody nor DSS custody? El-Zakzaky is in a house with his family, this is the honest truth,” the minister said.
Addressing the government's rejection of court orders to release the cleric, the minister said the government is merely keeping him in protective custody because "nobody wants to accept him as a neighbour".
The minister said, "The court ruled that he will be released after his house has been rebuilt. Nobody wants to accept El-Zakzaky as a neighbor. So we have been able to build a house, where do we release him to."
While Lai believes that keeping El-zakzaky in a “protective custody” is in Nigeria's best interest, his followers have continued to demand for his release three years after he was captured during a clash between Shiites and Army in Zaria, Kaduna state.

SAnglican Bishop predicts 2019 elections, warns politicians
Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kwara State, Philip Adeyemo, has warned politicians that there would be surprises and disappointment during 2019 elections.
The Bishop made the prediction at the third session of the third synod of the diocese held at Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Omu-Aran noting that no political party is qualified yet to fight corruption in the country.
He lamented that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC )with claims of ‘anti-corruption war’ is worse than its predecessor in office, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Bishop Adeyemo said, “The ruling party came to power on the platform of the promise to fight corruption. By my own assessment, the ruling party is even worse than the other party before them who we crucified.
“Nigerians should not be carried away by campaign promises of politicians but look for and vote for those with integrity and who are ready to serve the nation in 2019.
“Our politicians in Nigeria are greedy, selfish and not interested in the lives of the people they govern. Proverbs 29: 7 Says ‘The righteous considereth the cause of the poor but the wicked regardeth not to know it’.
“Task Masters have been fooling us, those who oppress and enslave us. I have not seen anyone among our politicians that are qualified to fight corruption, they are birds of the same feather flocking together.
“There will be surprises in 2019 election. Ecclesiastes 9:11 says ‘I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not for the swift nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bred to the wise, nor yet riches to the men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill, but time and chance happeneth to them all’.
“God has purposed to take over the helm of affairs of Nigeria, there will be a shaking and disappointments among our politicians.”

Lagos Police commence traffic law enforcement, to prosecute offenders in mobile courts
The Lagos Police Command, on Sunday, commenced the enforcement of traffic law across the state as mobile courts have been positioned in strategic places to prosecute offenders.
The Lagos Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said the exercise, which would be carried out between the hours of 6am and 6pm on daily basis, isaying it is to ease the incessant traffic problems in the state as well as curtail accidents caused by those who drive against traffic.
The police boss declared that anybody caught driving against traffic or along BRT lane or without driver’s license, be it motorist, motorcyclist or tricyclist; whether commercial or private, would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
In a meeting with stakeholders comprising members of transport unions and other traffic agencies, at the Police Officers Wives, POWA hall, Ikeja yesterday, Imohimi disclosed that 650 policemen had been deployed to man and arrest offenders at designated routes in Lagos.
Lamenting the menace caused by traffic offenders in Lagos, he said: “The impunity with which traffic laws are being flaunted has called for caution and it won’t be acceptable anymore, even with law enforcement officers.
“Lagosians and visitors disobey traffic laws as regards driving against traffic, driving on BRT lanes and driving without required documents.
“We must collectively fight this in order to restore orderliness on our roads.”
Sixty routes in the state were noted for abuse of traffic rules which include: Akpongbon bridge, Obalende bridge, Idumota( inward Iddo), Marina and Victoria Island, all under Area ‘A’ Command Lion Building. The routes which were categorised under 13 Area Commands, included Ijora, Marine bridge , Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, under Area ‘B’ command; Ijora Badia, Ojuelegba under bridge, Murtala Muhammed Way, Oyingbo junction and Ogunlana drive to Marshal Kilo, all under Area ‘ C’ Surulere command.
Identified routes under Area ‘D’ command known for traffic congestions included Cele (inward Mile Two), Cele (inward Ago – Okota), Oke-Afa (inward Ejigbo), Ijesha express, Mushin Ojuwoye street and Fadeyi, among other routes.
The Police boss informed that the Police, as the lead agency in law enforcement would deploy 50 men to each of the designated routes while other traffic management agencies such as the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would have not less than five of their officials at the designated routes, while the transport unions would deplore one of their task force officials to the locations.
Addressing heads of the traffic unions, the CP admonished them to inform their members who do not have required driving documents to iff the road in order not to risk their vehicles or okada from being impounded.
Imohimi, who disclosed that the exercise is not to generate fund, warned the law enforcement agents against distortion and or any form of corrupt practices such as demanding money from any offender, threatening that any policeman caught would be demoted in rank and the supervising officer queried.
He also warned Lagosians not to tempt any of the policemen with money if caught.
He declared that offenders would be given opportunity by the mobile courts to get the correct documents before their vehicles or motorcycles could be released to them.
Meanwhile, the Transport Union Workers pleaded with the police command to give them some time for their members to get the required documents before being prosecuted, maintaining that the notice period is too short for them.

WAEC certificate: Dino Melaye mocks Buhari
The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has mocked President Muhammadu Buhari over the lingering issue of his WAEC certificate.
President Buhari, who is the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, failed to submit his credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Wednesday.
KANNY ONLINE reported earlier that the various candidates’ credentials were made available to reporters in Abuja on Thursday and President Buhari only submitted an affidavit where he claimed that his credentials were with the Secretary of the Military Board.
In his affidavit to the electoral umpire, Buhari explained, “I am the above-named person and the deponent of this affidavit herein. All my academic qualification documents as filled in my Presidential form, APC/001/2015 are currently with the Secretary of the Military Board as of the time of this affidavit.”
Reacting to the development, Melaye tweeted, “Atiku submitted His certificates to INEC, Buhari submitted excuses to INEC.
“It’s okay! Law must prevail.”

EPL: Mourinho takes another swipe at Man United’s board
Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has taken another swipe at his United board by claiming that Everton have the ‘same ambition’ as the Red Devils this season.
United spent around £70m during the summer transfer window on Fred and Diogo Dalot but Mourinho was furious that his board failed to sign at least one centre-back.
United’s executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward overruled Mourinho’s defensive choices and the Red Devils had a slow start to the season, leaning in tenth position of the Premier League table.
Mourinho has made a number of digs at his board since the start of the season by praising West Ham’s scouting network and Juventus’ strength in depth.
However, the Portuguese claimed that his Sunday’s opponents, Everton have the same ‘ambition’ as United do.
“Incredible investment,” Mourinho was quoted by Metro UK when asked about Everton.
“We knew the club would move in that direction, very good players, players from Barcelona.
“So that is the level which Everton wants to reach. Their ambitions are very similar to our ambitions.”
The Toffees signed Yerry Mina from Barcelona during the summer transfer window who was also on United’s radar.
The centre-back had an impressive performance during the World Cup but he’s yet to make his debut for the Everton given the partnership between Kurt Zouma and Michael Keane.
